μ' αρέσει το τοπίο στο παράθυρο έξω... κάποτε το είχα ζωγραφίσει χωριστά... σε κάποια άλλη ζωγραφιά...
A Man Reading (Saint Ivo?) about 1450, Workshop of Rogier van der Weyden.
National Gallery, London. Oil on oak , 45 x 35 cm
The painting, was perhaps the left-hand part of a small devotional painting. It once bore a later inscription identifying the subject as Saint Ivo of Kermartin (1253 - 1303), the patron saint of lawyers and advocate of the poor. The saint was most popular in his native Brittany. The paper held by the sitter resembles a legal document, which would be appropriate for Saint Ivo, or it may be a portrait, perhaps of a lawyer.
The painting is very much in Rogier van der Weyden's style, but shows weaknesses in the drawing of the hands and the foreshortening of the face, and is therefore probably from his workshop.
